History and municipal change

The village retained a long history as an independent commune until a municipal reorganisation. On 17 October 2020 the former municipalities of Brione (Verzasca), Corippo, Frasco, Sonogno and Vogorno were merged to create the new municipality of Verzasca. This consolidation was part of a wider trend in Switzerland to combine small local administrations for efficiency and improved services.

Frasco sits within a steep, forested valley carved by the Verzasca river. The settlement is characterized by narrow streets, terraces, and traditional stone houses with slate roofs, reflecting building styles adapted to alpine conditions.
