Fernando Sebastián Aguilar (14 December 1929 – 24 January 2019) was a Spanish Roman Catholic prelate and member of the Claretian missionaries (CMF). Born in Calatayud, he became a priest, later served as a bishop and archbishop, and was elevated to the College of Cardinals late in life. He is remembered for pastoral work, teaching, and contributions to Spanish ecclesial life.

Religious life and order

Sebastián Aguilar belonged to the Congregation of Missionaries, Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (Claretians), a religious order focused on missionary activity, education and parish ministry. As a Claretian he combined community life with priestly ministry and later with responsibilities in diocesan leadership.

Episcopal career

He was appointed Bishop of León, serving from 1979 until 1983, when he was named Archbishop of Pamplona and Tudela. He led that archdiocese from 1983 until his retirement in 2007. His episcopal ministry spanned pastoral governance, seminary formation and engagement with local Catholic institutions.
