Geography and land use
The county occupies a landscape of rolling countryside, mixed forests and farmland. Land use is dominated by agriculture and timber, with scattered residential settlements. Waterways, local roads and farmland patterns shape settlement; many residents live outside of concentrated towns, preferring dispersed homes and family farms. The county’s landscape supports outdoor activities, small-scale farming and conservation of open space.
