Eqlid County, Fars Province, Iran
Overview of Eqlid County in Fars Province, Iran: geography, administration, population, economy and notable features, with its main districts and cities.
Overview
Eqlid County (Persian: شهرستان اقلید) is an administrative county in the northern part of Fars Province in Iran. Its administrative centre and largest city is Eqlid. The county is one of several that form Fars Province, a region known for its historical importance in the broader Persian cultural area.
Geography and climate
Eqlid County lies on relatively high ground compared with much of Fars Province and exhibits a cooler climate than the lowland plains to the south. The landscape combines mountain foothills, plateaus and valleys. Local watercourses and seasonal streams support agriculture where conditions permit. The cooler temperatures and seasonal precipitation patterns shape land use and settlement distribution within the county.
Administrative divisions
The county is subdivided into several districts and urban settlements. Administratively it comprises three main districts and multiple cities and rural communities.
- Central District
- Sedeh District (Sedeh)
- Hasanabad District
Major urban centers include Eqlid, Sedeh, Dezhkord and Hasanabad. The county structure follows the standard Iranian system of counties (shahrestan) formed from districts (bakhsh) and rural districts (dehestan).
Population and society
According to the 2011 census the county had a population of 93,975 people in 25,077 families. Residents live in a mix of urban and rural communities; many settlements are small towns or villages that rely on local agriculture, pasturing and small-scale trade. Cultural life reflects regional Persian traditions and local rural customs.
Economy and land use
The local economy is principally based on agriculture, horticulture and animal husbandry adapted to highland conditions. Where irrigation and soil permit, crops and orchards are cultivated; elsewhere pasture and seasonal grazing are important. Small trade, services in the county seat, and connections to provincial markets in Fars also contribute to livelihoods.
History and notable facts
Eqlid County occupies territory with long-standing settlement in the context of the Fars region, which has been significant in Iranian history. The county today is important for connecting upland communities to larger provincial centers. For administrative and statistical details, official provincial sources and national censuses provide current figures and boundary descriptions.
