Einsiedeln is a municipality and district in the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland. It is known for its monastery, the Benedictine Einsiedeln Abbey, founded in the 10th century.

Geography
The municipality of Einsiedeln is made up of the village of Einsiedeln and the six villages (quarters) of Bennau, Egg, Willerzell, Euthal, Gross and Trachslau. The village of Biberbrugg is shared with the municipality of Feusisberg.
Einsiedeln itself, the most visited place of pilgrimage in Switzerland, lies south of Lake Zurich on a plateau (approx. 880 m above sea level).

Einsiedeln is the second largest municipality in the canton of Schwyz. On 10 January 2017, the municipality had 15,033 inhabitants (12,997 Swiss, 2,249 foreigners - proportion of foreigners: 14.96%). In the village of Einsiedeln 9,540 people lived, in the quarter Gross 1,356 people, in Trachslau 1,196 people in Bennau 1,074 people, in Willerzell 941 people, in Euthal 603 people and in Egg 527 people. Between 2010 and 2013, the population grew by 3.4%. In 2013, 21.5% of the population was between 0 and 19 years old, 61.5% was between 20 and 44 years old and 17.0% was 65 years or older.
Einsiedeln is still strongly Catholic to this day. Until a few decades ago, almost the entire population was Roman Catholic. Strong immigration from other Swiss cantons and abroad in particular has led to a rapid increase in other denominational groups in Einsiedeln.
