Career and positions

Amini was a member of the Assembly of Experts from 1983 until 2007 and again from 2016 until his death in 2020. That body is charged with selecting and supervising the Supreme Leader and is composed largely of senior clerics. He also served on the Expediency Discernment Council, an advisory and mediating institution that helps resolve disputes between Iran's parliament and other governing bodies and offers policy advice to the leadership.
