Dick Feagler (1938–2018)

Early life and entry into journalism

Feagler began his professional journalism career in the early 1960s. He entered the newsroom writing obituaries in 1963, an assignment that helped him develop concise, human-focused prose and an eye for personal detail. In 1970 he launched a regular feature column that ran for more than a decade and helped establish his reputation among readers across the region.

Feagler's columns mixed reporting, personal observation and opinion. Feagler received significant recognition for his broadcasting work, including a Peabody Award in 1991. He remained a prominent figure in Cleveland’s civic and cultural life for decades.
