A combined platform is a platform where passengers can change between different means of transport that have different requirements in terms of route and/or platform height. It is a relatively new but now popular idea to better link public transport.

Typically, this is understood to mean a central platform with a rail vehicle (railway, underground, light rail or tram) stopping at one edge and buses on the other (possibly under a common platform roof). Ideally, this should make it possible to transfer from a rail, light rail or tram carriage to a low-floor bus without having to climb a single step.

If street-level tram tracks are provided on the "bus side", the platform can also link them to light rail or rail.

The platforms that have become common in railway operations in recent times, where there are tracks on both sides, but with different platform heights, are not normally referred to as combined platforms. They have become necessary because, for example, three different standard platform heights (55 cm, 76 cm and 96 cm) are common in new railway stations in Germany.
