Geography and community character

Concow sits in the Sierra Nevada foothill zone and is surrounded by mixed coniferous forest, chaparral and rangeland. History and name

The name "Concow" derives from the Concow or Konkow band of the Maidu people, indigenous to this part of northern California. European-American settlement and development in the area followed patterns common to the foothills—ranching, timber use and small-scale local commerce—producing a dispersed, close-knit rural community rather than a dense town center.

2018 Camp Fire and aftermath

In November 2018 the Camp Fire swept through parts of Butte County and overtook Concow, destroying many homes and infrastructure elements and forcing evacuations.
