Overview

Cavigliano was a small, Italian-speaking village and former municipality in the district of Locarno within the canton of Ticino, Switzerland. On 14 April 2013 the communities of Cavigliano, Tegna and Verscio joined administratively to form the new municipality of Terre di Pedemonte. The merger was part of a broader trend of municipal consolidation in Switzerland aimed at improving local services and administration.

Geography and character

Perched on slopes above a valley plain, Cavigliano traditionally offered a mix of wooded hillsides, terraced plots and compact village housing. Its position in southern Switzerland gives the area a milder climate than the high Alps and fosters Mediterranean-influenced vegetation.
