A modest marina, seaside promenade and cafés give it the atmosphere of a traditional Provençal seaside resort. Local activities include diving, recreational fishing and coastal walks along cliffs and bays.

History and development

Originally a fishing settlement, Carry-le-Rouet expanded as tourism grew on the French Riviera and Provence coast from the late 19th century onward. Buildings, villas and leisure facilities were added while preserving many natural features of the shore. The town’s development reflects the wider pattern of coastal tourism in southern France.

The local economy combines tourism, small-scale commerce and services for residents and visitors. Seasonal cultural events, markets and maritime traditions remain important. Administrative and regional information can be found through the Bouches-du-Rhône department portal and local government sites such as municipal services or regional guides for southern France.
