Miikka Kiprusoff (born October 26, 1976, in Turku, Finland) is a Finnish retired professional ice hockey goaltender widely known for his tenure in the National Hockey League, most prominently with the Calgary Flames. Nicknamed "Kipper," he rose from the Finnish club system to the NHL and became one of the league's most recognized netminders in the mid-2000s. The Calgary Flames announced his retirement on September 9, 2013.
Early life and development
Kiprusoff developed as a player in Finland's top leagues, where he established the fundamentals that would serve him in North America: positional awareness, calm puck-handling and consistent technique. After being selected by an NHL club, he moved to North America to pursue a professional career, spending time in the minor leagues before earning an NHL roster spot.
NHL career
