Wetton first came to notice in the late 1960s and early 1970s with bands such as Mogul Thrash and Family. He died in his sleep at his home in Bournemouth (Bournemouth), in the county of Dorset, on 31 January 2017 after a battle with colon cancer (colon cancer). He was 67 and was survived by his wife Lisa and their son Dylan. Musicians and fans have continued to cite his work as influential within progressive rock and melodic hard rock circles.
