Haakon, Crown Prince of Norway (pronounced [ˈhoːkʊn]; Haakon Magnus; born 20 July 1973) is the only son and the younger child of King Harald V and Queen Sonja. He is the heir apparent to the Norwegian throne.
Family
Haakon has one older sibling, Princess Märtha Louise. His parents, Harald and Sonja, became Norway's king and queen in 1991; on their accession he assumed the title of Crown Prince.
Succession
When his father became king in 1991, the succession rules in force gave male heirs priority over their sisters, which placed Haakon ahead of his older sister in the line to the throne. Norway reformed its succession law in 1990 to establish absolute (equal) primogeniture for those born after the change; this revision was not applied retroactively and therefore did not affect Haakon’s status as Crown Prince.
Residence
The official residence of the Crown Prince and Crown Princess is the Skaugum Estate, located in the Semsvannet area.
