Gérard Feldzer (born 10 February 1944) is a French aviator, media consultant and popularizer of aeronautics. Trained and experienced in professional flying, he later moved into public communication about aviation and aeronautical heritage. Since 2009 he has been active as a radio journalist and commentator with France Info and as an adviser on aviation matters to the media (media consultant).

Career and roles

Feldzer's professional life spans several interconnected roles in aviation, museum management and broadcasting. He began his career as a commercial pilot before branching into leadership and public service within France's aviation community. Notable positions include:

  • Service as a French airline pilot early in his career.
  • President of the Aéro-Club de France from 1995 to 2005, representing recreational and historical aviation interests.
  • Director of the Musée de l'Air (French Air and Space Museum) from 2005 until August 2010, overseeing the institution's activities and public programs.

These positions combined operational knowledge with advocacy for aviation safety, heritage and education. Feldzer is widely recognized for translating technical subjects into accessible formats for the general public.

Public outreach and influence

As a communicator he has appeared regularly on radio and other media discussing aviation topics, contemporary aerospace issues and the history of flight. His work emphasizes making aeronautics intelligible and engaging to non-specialists, promoting both practical understanding and appreciation of aviation heritage.

Honours and significance

On 1 January 2012 he was named an Officer of the Légion d'honneur, a national recognition of his contributions to aviation and public service. Beyond formal awards, his influence lies in bridging professional aviation, museum stewardship and mass communication, contributing to how the French public encounters and understands flight.
