Dejan Stanković (born 11 September 1978) is a retired Serbian professional football player widely regarded for his versatility and stamina in midfield. During a career that spanned club football in Serbia and Italy and more than a decade at the highest level, he developed a reputation for powerful long shots, set‑piece ability and an industrious box‑to‑box presence.

Club career

Stanković began at Red Star Belgrade as a youth before moving to Italy, where he spent the prime years of his career. He became a key figure for SS Lazio in the late 1990s and early 2000s and later joined Internazionale Milano, where he played a central role in a highly successful period for the club. At Inter he was part of teams that dominated domestic competition and captured major European silverware.

International career
