Del McCoury — American Bluegrass Musician and Bandleader

Delano "Del" McCoury (born February 1, 1939) is an American musician and singer widely associated with traditional bluegrass. He is best known as leader of the Del McCoury Band, where he performs lead vocals and guitar alongside his sons, Ronnie and Rob McCoury. Over a career spanning many decades he has been admired for his clear tenor voice, energetic stage presence and dedication to the bluegrass repertoire.

Musical characteristics commonly associated with McCoury include the so‑called "high lonesome" vocal timbre, a driving tempo in ensemble numbers, and concise instrumental breaks that showcase both melody and rhythmic support.
