Anne Grommerch (11 December 1970 – 15 April 2016) was a French politician known for her local and national roles on the centre‑right. Born in Thionville, she became a prominent public figure in the Moselle department, where she combined parliamentary work with municipal leadership.

Political career

Grommerch sat in the National Assembly of France, the country’s lower legislative chamber, representing a constituency in Moselle. She was a member of the Union for a Popular Movement (UMP), the major centre‑right party that later evolved into other formations. In Parliament she succeeded Jean‑Marie Demange after he left the seat, and took part in the routine legislative duties of deputies, including debating laws, serving on committees and representing local interests at the national level.

Local leadership

Alongside her parliamentary mandate, Grommerch was active in municipal politics. In 2014 she was elected Mayor of Thionville, the town of her birth, where she focused on local administration, urban issues and municipal services. Her dual role reflected a common pattern in French politics where local and national responsibilities overlap.

Illness and death

Grommerch was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007 and lived with the disease for several years while continuing public duties at times. Her long illness ultimately led to her death on 15 April 2016 at the age of 45. Her passing was noted in national and regional media and prompted reflections on the challenges faced by public servants coping with serious illness.

Legacy and context

Anne Grommerch is remembered for her service to Moselle at both municipal and national levels. Her career offers an example of the interplay between local governance and parliamentary work in France, and her experience highlights issues such as the health pressures on elected officials and the ways political parties manage succession when members step down or die in office.
