The former municipality lies at approximately 51°09′ North, 03°36′ East. In official counts it had a population of about 7,756 inhabitants in 2007; demographic changes since then followed regional trends of modest growth and suburbanization. Administrative history

Until the late 2010s Waarschoot was governed as a separate municipal entity (municipality). On 1 January 2019 it was merged with the neighbouring municipalities of Lovendegem and Zomergem to form the larger administrative municipality of Lievegem.
