Overview
Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends — commonly shortened to Viva la Vida — is the fourth studio album by the rock band Coldplay. It was released on 12 June 2008.
Recording and release
The band recorded the album across a period lasting from June 2007 until April 2008. The sessions produced a sound that marked a stylistic shift from some of Coldplay’s earlier records.
Later the same year, in November 2008, Coldplay issued a re-release titled Viva la Vida: Prospekt's March Edition. This edition bundled the original album with additional material drawn from the Prospekt's March EP.
Singles and editions
The album spawned several singles, including:
- "Violet Hill"
- "Viva la Vida"
- "Lost!"
- "Lost+" (featuring Jay-Z)
- "Lovers in Japan"
Some of these tracks and the extra songs from the EP appear on the extended Prospekt's March edition, which expanded the original track list for collectors and new listeners.
