Set in the rolling landscape characteristic of Gros-de-Vaud, Villars-Tiercelin comprised hamlets, farmland and mixed woodland. History and municipal merger

In mid-2011 Villars-Tiercelin ceased to exist as an independent municipality when it joined a multi-commune merger intended to streamline administration and pool resources. On 1 July 2011 the former municipalities of Montaubion-Chardonney, Sottens, Villars-Mendraz, Peney-le-Jorat and Villars-Tiercelin combined to form the new municipality of Jorat-Menthue. The consolidation reflected broader Swiss trends toward voluntary mergers to improve public services.

Economy, culture and local life

The local economy historically centered on agriculture, small-scale commerce and commuting to larger towns for employment. Cultural life was typical of Vaud's villages: seasonal festivals, communal meetings and local traditions linked to harvest and religious calendars. After the merger, community activities continued but were organised within the larger municipal framework of Jorat-Menthue.
