Early life and priesthood

Olmi entered the priesthood in the immediate postwar period, a time of social change and pastoral renewal in Italy. Ordained in 1950, his early ministry coincided with significant developments in the Catholic Church, including the era of the Second Vatican Council and its aftermath, which shaped pastoral priorities across dioceses.

Episcopal appointment

In 1986 Olmi was named a bishop with the titular see of Gunugus while serving as auxiliary bishop of Brescia. A titular see is an historical diocese retained in title for bishops who assist residential ordinaries or serve in non-diocesan roles. As titular bishop of Gunugus he carried the episcopal rank while supporting the diocesan bishop of Brescia in pastoral and sacramental ministry.

Duties and pastoral work

As an auxiliary bishop Olmi carried out confirmations, pastoral visits, and other delegated responsibilities. Auxiliary bishops commonly assist with sacramental ministry, clergy formation, and administrative tasks to ensure pastoral care across parishes. Olmi's work was primarily local and parish-focused, characterized by long-term service within the same regional church.

Retirement and later years

Olmi concluded his active auxiliary ministry in 2003, entering the period of retirement that many bishops observe while remaining figures of pastoral memory in their dioceses. In retirement he remained associated with the Diocese of Brescia and with the communities where he had served.

Death and legacy

He died on 25 January 2019 in Brescia. While not widely known outside the region, Olmi's long service is representative of many clergy who devote decades to local pastoral care. His ministry illustrates the supportive role of auxiliary bishops in maintaining diocesan life and continuity.
