History and administrative change

Versam retained a village character for centuries, with local customs and a mix of Romansh and German cultural influences common in Surselva. On 1 January 2013, Versam joined neighboring municipalities Valendas, Safien and Tenna to form the new municipality of Safiental. The merger aimed to streamline administration, improve public services and strengthen communal planning — reasons typical of municipal consolidations in Switzerland.

Economy and uses

Local economic activity has concentrated on small-scale farming, forestry and tourism. Visitors come for walking, panoramic views and the sense of rural alpine life. The village has served as a base for day hikes and for experiencing traditional mountain architecture and village layouts.
