Design and characteristics

The Tu-154 features three rear-mounted turbofan engines, a swept wing and a distinctive T-tail. These features gave it strong cruise performance at high subsonic speeds and allowed simplified cabin layouts typical of narrow-body designs. The airframe and landing gear were made robust to operate from shorter or less-prepared runways.
