Political career and parliamentary service

Rajapaksha was first elected to the Parliament of Sri Lanka in 1994. During his parliamentary career he represented his party in debates and committees and was active within the UNP's organisational structures. He was a member of the UNP Working Committee, which coordinates party policy and election strategy.
