Barisal Zilla School is an all-boys secondary school situated in the city of Barisal, within Bangladesh. Founded in the early 19th century, it is counted among the nation's oldest and most prominent high schools, and it holds the distinction of being the first established high school in the present-day Barisal Division.
History
The institution opened its doors on 23 December 1829, when N. W. Garret, an Englishman, enrolled just eight pupils. Over the decades the school expanded its enrolment and facilities, gradually evolving from a small colonial-era establishment into a large local centre for secondary education.
Present day
Today the school educates a student body numbering more than two thousand. Its long history and continued operation make it a prominent part of Barisal's educational landscape.
