Overview

Serri (Sèrri in Sardinian) is a small town and comune in the Province of Sud Sardegna on the island of Sardinia. Administratively it functions as a municipality (comune) within the region of Sardinia and the country of Italy. Local references and web pages identify the settlement as Serri. The population was recorded at about 653 inhabitants in 2016; the municipal territory covers 19.18 km² and the town lies at roughly 640 metres above sea level.

Geography

Serri occupies an inland, hilly position characteristic of central‑southern Sardinia. Its elevation moderates summer heat and produces cooler winters than the coastal plain. Surrounding land use is mainly agricultural and pastoral, with cultivated plots, vineyards and groves interspersed with pasture and scrub. Local roads connect Serri to neighbouring villages and to larger centres in the province.

History and culture

The wider Sardinian region has a long history, from prehistoric Nuragic communities through classical and medieval eras; many small towns share a layered cultural heritage visible in place names, parish churches and customs. Serri participates in regional religious festivals and agricultural celebrations, and local traditions in music, cuisine and craftwork help maintain community identity.

Economy and services

The economic base is largely rural: smallholder agriculture, olive cultivation, vineyards, and livestock rearing are typical economic activities for communities of this size. Basic municipal services such as a town hall, primary education and local shops are present, while residents commonly travel to larger towns for specialized healthcare, higher education and administrative services. Like many inland Sardinian municipalities, Serri has experienced demographic changes with younger residents often relocating to urban areas.
