Geography and landscape

The locality sits on the Manche (English Channel) coast and features the mixed coastal terrain typical of this part of Normandy: low cliffs and shingle or sandy stretches, sheltered inlets and views across the channel. Its setting makes it part of the wider coastal corridor that links beach sectors, small ports and agricultural hinterland in the Calvados area. The commune lay within the administrative boundaries of the Calvados department.

History and name

The name refers to Saint Honorina, a saint whose cult is established in Normandy and who gives her name to several localities. Like many Normandy coastal villages, Sainte‑Honorine‑des‑Pertes has a long rural history shaped by agriculture, fishing and maritime activity. In the 20th century the surrounding coast became internationally known because of the 1944 Allied landings; the village is close to sectors of the Normandy landing beaches and to memorial sites.
