The commune was formed by combining two former communes. This administrative change brought their institutions and territories together to operate as a single municipal entity.

History and rationale

Bâgé-Dommartin was officially established on 1 January 2018. Its creation followed a national-era movement encouraging the voluntary consolidation of small communes to pool resources, rationalize administration and improve service delivery. Locally, the new commune builds on longstanding social and economic ties between the two former communes, maintaining local events and cultural practices while aligning municipal services for efficiency.
