Format and characteristics

The modern Armenian postal code is always four digits long and written together with the locality name when addressing mail. In everyday use the code appears alongside the town or district name, for example "Yerevan 0010". Codes are numeric only and are assigned to towns, districts or individual large recipients to aid automated sorting.

History and the 2006 change

Prior to April 1, 2006 Armenia used a six-digit postal code scheme. The postal administration restructured the system and introduced the four-digit codes on that date. A concrete example of the change: the Foreign Ministry in Yerevan previously used the six-digit code "375010"; following the reform it uses the four-digit code "0010". When writing an address in Armenia it is common to place the postal code next to the locality name to ensure prompt handling.
