Nol Heijerman (10 October 1940 – 23 January 2015) was a Dutch professional footballer known for his spells with HVC and the Rotterdam-based club Xerxes. Though not widely famous outside the Netherlands, Heijerman was part of a vibrant era in Dutch domestic football and contributed to one of Xerxes' most successful periods.

Career overview

Heijerman began his senior career with HVC before moving on to Xerxes, where he became a regular member of the team. He made his debut for Xerxes on 25 August 1963 in a 2-2 draw away to FC Wageningen in the then third-tier Tweede Divisie. Over the following seasons he helped the side progress through the Dutch league system, culminating in promotion to the top flight.

Promotion and teammates

One of the highlights of Heijerman's time at Xerxes was the club's promotion to the Eredivisie in 1966. That promotion marked a high point for a relatively small Rotterdam club, which fielded several players who would be important names in Dutch football. Notable teammates during that period included:

  • Ab Fafié
  • Willem van Hanegem
  • Rob Jacobs
  • Eddy Treijtel

Playing style and role

Contemporary reports and accounts describe Heijerman as a committed squad player who fitted into the team structure at Xerxes. While detailed statistics from that era are less complete than modern records, his presence in the side during a promotion campaign indicates a reliable contributor at club level.

Later life and legacy

After retiring from playing, Heijerman remained part of the local football community and is remembered by supporters of Xerxes and followers of Dutch football history. His career is an example of the many professional players who sustain domestic leagues and help smaller clubs achieve memorable successes. Heijerman passed away on 23 January 2015. While he did not attain the celebrity of some of his more famous teammates, his contributions to Xerxes' ascent in the mid-1960s are still noted in club histories and accounts of that period in Dutch football.
