Moyen-Ogooué Province, Gabon

Geography and environment

The province is traversed by the Ogooué River and includes extensive riverine systems, floodplains and pockets of lowland rainforest. The landscape combines waterways, seasonal swamps and forested areas, supporting diverse plant and animal life typical of Gabon's equatorial climate: high humidity, significant annual rainfall and relatively constant temperatures year-round.

Administration and population

Moyen-Ogooué functions as an administrative unit within Gabon's national framework, with Lambaréné serving as the provincial seat and principal urban center. Outside Lambaréné the region is characterized by small towns and scattered rural settlements. The population includes a range of local ethnic groups and communities whose livelihoods are closely tied to riverine and forest resources.

Economy and infrastructure

Economic activity in the province is largely based on fishing, small-scale agriculture, forestry and services concentrated in Lambaréné.
