Geography and climate

The region occupies a zone where Sahelian and more humid Sudanian influences meet: rainy seasons alternate with dry months, producing a mosaic of cultivated fields, gallery forests and seasonal wetlands. Rivers and streams that feed into larger basins give the area relatively higher moisture than northern parts of Chad and support fishing and irrigation where conditions allow.

Administration and population

Mayo-Kebbi Est functions as a first-level administrative unit within Chad's decentralised system and is divided into smaller local jurisdictions for governance. Its population is composed of diverse ethnic and linguistic groups, with people engaged in farming, pastoralism and trade.
