Career and artistic focus

Ortega worked across a broad range of media. He produced easel paintings and portraits, executed monumental murals for civic and religious settings, and designed sculptural work and engraved plates. Over his lifetime he completed more than 200 murals and numerous stained-glass schemes for cathedrals, seminaries, palaces, hotels and residential developments throughout Spain. Among Ortega’s most prominent successes was winning the international competition to design the stained-glass windows of the Almudena Cathedral in Madrid in 1998.
