Musical style and repertoire

Ebrel's repertoire drew on Breton oral traditions, including dance songs and regional vocal forms that accompany community dancing. As a kan ha diskan singer she performed in partnership with other vocalists, producing a lively, rhythmic interchange intended to energize dancers. She also played guitar, supporting her singing and adapting arrangements for contemporary stages.

Career and collaborations

In the 1990s Ebrel experienced renewed public visibility through collaborations with younger Breton artists. From 1991 to 2006 she worked regularly with the singer-poet Denez Prigent, appearing both as a duo and with his band. Beginning in 1996 she sang with Ifig Flatrès in kan ha diskan performances at festoù noz, the nightly Breton dance gatherings that helped sustain traditional music.

Later she embraced cross-genre projects that introduced traditional singing to new audiences. In 2006 she appeared onstage with the punk group Les Ramoneurs de menhirs and with the rock-oriented band Red Cardell, demonstrating a willingness to blend ancestral forms with contemporary electric music.

Legacy and significance

Throughout her life Ebrel was admired for keeping Breton song alive and making it relevant beyond folk circuits. She died on 30 March 2020 at the age of 87.
