History and development

Lithuania first fielded a national side in the interwar period; international activity was interrupted by the Soviet era and resumed after Lithuania regained independence. Since returning to independent international competition, the team has rebuilt its domestic structures and gradually increased its participation in qualifiers, friendly fixtures and regional tournaments.

Competitions and record

The team regularly enters qualification cycles for the FIFA World Cup and the UEFA European Championship and, since the late 2010s, takes part in the UEFA Nations League. While Lithuania has not yet qualified for a World Cup or European Championship final tournament, it has recorded notable wins in qualification matches and achieved success in the regional Baltic Cup against neighbours Latvia and Estonia.
