Franchise history

Although the Hurricanes name has been used since 1987, the franchise has earlier origins that date back to the late 1960s. Over several decades the club changed locations and identities before settling in Lethbridge. These predecessor identities reflect the franchise's long presence in Canadian junior hockey.

League and competitive role

The Hurricanes compete in the Western Hockey League (WHL), one of three leagues that form the Canadian Hockey League (CHL). As a major junior club, Lethbridge develops players generally aged 16–20, combines coaching and education priorities, and participates in annual regular seasons and playoff series that culminate in the WHL championship and, for successful clubs, national contention.

Arena and community

The team's home venue is the ENMAX Centre in Lethbridge, located in the province of Alberta. The Hurricanes are active in local outreach, youth hockey programs and community events, contributing to sport development and regional identity. Home games function as focal points for local fans and sponsors while supporting economic activity around the arena.

Achievements and notable facts

One of the franchise's high points came in the 1996–97 season when the club won the WHL championship (the Ed Chynoweth Cup). Beyond that title, the Hurricanes have produced numerous players who advanced to professional leagues and have had intermittent success in playoff competition.
