Les Thioleyres — former municipality in the canton of Vaud, Switzerland

Geography and character

The village sits amid a patchwork of fields, meadows and woodland typical of the inland plateaus of Vaud. Merger into Oron (2012)

On 1 January 2012 Les Thioleyres ceased to exist as an independent municipality when it joined neighbouring communes to create the new municipality called Oron. The merger combined the following former municipalities:

• Oron-la-Ville
• Oron-le-Châtel

• Les Tavernes
• Les Thioleyres
• Vuibroye

The consolidation reflected a broader trend across Switzerland to pool administrative resources, streamline public services and strengthen local planning capacities. After the merger, municipal responsibilities — such as schools, local planning and taxation — were handled by the new Oron council.

Present-day status and relevance

Today Les Thioleyres exists as a village and locality within the municipality of Oron. Its identity endures through local place names, community events and records preserved in cantonal archives. For administrative matters, inhabitants now refer to Oron’s municipal offices; historical information and property records remain accessible through cantonal services and municipal publications on administrative matters. The area continues to be valued for its rural landscape and its connection to the nearby market towns that form the social and economic network of the region.
