Life and career

Lorenc's professional life included positions at central Sorbian cultural institutions. From 1961 to 1972 he worked at the Institute for Sorbian People Research in Bautzen, a regional centre for scholarship on the Sorbian language, folklore and history. Between 1972 and 1979 he served as a dramaturge with the State Ensemble for Sorbian People's Culture, helping to shape theatrical and musical presentations of Sorbian traditions. Later he lived as a freelance writer in the village of Wuischke near Hochkirch and was a member of the Sächsischen Akademie der Künste.

Lorenc is best known for his lyric poetry and shorter prose.
