Landscape and features

Kaghan's terrain ranges from green slopes and pine forests at lower elevations to bare rock, glaciers and permanent snowfields higher up. The Kunhar River runs through much of the valley, fed by melting snow and glaciers. Notable high points and routes provide access between valleys and to the alpine plateaus: these include mountain passes that are typically closed by winter snow.

Access is typically by road from lower districts, with routes that can be closed by snow at higher elevations; travelers often use local guides and services.
