Ángel Roberto Seifart (12 September 1941 – 2 July 2018) was a Paraguayan politician affiliated with the long-dominant Colorado Party. Born in Asunción, he played an active part in the national politics of Paraguay during the transition from military rule to civilian government and in the democratic period that followed. His public career included senior executive responsibilities and visible participation in multiple administrations.

Political career and offices

Seifart first came to wider public attention when he served as Minister of Education in the government led by Andrés Rodríguez. That administration oversaw a transitional phase after the end of Alfredo Stroessner's extended rule and implemented early reforms of state institutions. Later, in the 1993 national elections, Seifart was the running mate of Juan Carlos Wasmosy and was elected Vice President, serving from 15 August 1993 to 15 August 1998.

As vice president he carried constitutional duties typical of the office, supporting the presidency and representing the executive branch at official functions. His vice-presidential term coincided with one of Paraguay's first fully civilian administrations after a long period of authoritarian and military-influenced governance, which made the role symbolically significant for democratic consolidation. In the late 1990s he returned to cabinet service as a minister under President Raúl Cubas Grau, continuing his involvement in national policymaking.

Roles and significance

Seifart's career illustrates the continuity of political figures within the Colorado Party across turbulent years. His experience spanned a transitional military-led government and subsequent civilian administrations. Observers have noted that politicians like Seifart helped maintain institutional memory during the shift to competitive elections and contributed to the routines of governance in ministries and in the vice-presidential office.
