Overview
Gressy was a small, formerly independent municipality in the Jura-Nord vaudois district of the canton of Vaud, in Switzerland. On 1 July 2011 the municipality was incorporated into the larger town of Yverdon-les-Bains. The community is representative of many small Swiss localities that have retained a rural character while being close to regional urban centers.
Geography and character
Gressy lay in a lowland area typical of this part of Vaud, with a mix of agricultural land and scattered residential buildings. The landscape and settlement pattern reflect centuries of local farming and small-scale habitation. Its proximity to Yverdon-les-Bains made it part of that town’s immediate hinterland and shaped commuting and service relationships.
History and administration
Historically, Gressy functioned as an independent municipal entity with its own local council and cadastral records, as is common in Swiss municipal organization. In the early 21st century, an administrative reorganization led to its merger with Yverdon-les-Bains on 1 July 2011. Such mergers in Switzerland are usually driven by aims to improve administrative efficiency, share services and reduce costs while maintaining local identity.
After the merger
Since the merger, Gressy has been administered as part of Yverdon-les-Bains. Residents generally rely on the larger town for municipal services, schools and commercial needs, while preserving local landmarks and traditions where possible. The integration typically affects planning, public utilities and electoral representation.
