Geography

Göschenen covers a large mountain area, with a municipal territory of about 104.31 square kilometres. The landscape combines the steep Schöllenen Gorge, high alpine slopes and mountain pastures. Its setting at the entrance to the Gotthard passes makes it a gateway between northern and southern Switzerland and gives the municipality a varied elevation range and typical Alpine climates.
