Fallen (Evanescence album)
Fallen (English for: "crashed"/"fallen" in the sense of having fallen off or died) is the debut album by US metal band Evanescence. Three songs ("Whisper", "Imaginary" and "My Immortal") were taken from the demo album Origin, which was only released in limited edition in Little Rock. The follow-up album Anywhere but Home is a concert recording of the album Fallen.
The album went platinum in Austria and double platinum in Germany and Switzerland. In the USA it reached number 3 in the album charts, spent over 100 weeks there and achieved 7-times platinum status. Worldwide, it has sold over 15 million copies, making it the 11th best-selling album from 2000 to 2009.

Amy Lee said in an interview on Australia MTV's The Lair that she never co-wrote a song with Ben Moody. She always started on her own, presented her drafts to Moody and then made adjustments. Most of the songs from Fallen reflect Amy's feelings and thoughts.
"Going Under" was the last song written for Fallen. It reflects the physically and emotionally destructive relationship Lee had just gone through. The song was intended to be the first single. However, since "Bring Me to Life" was part of the Daredevil soundtrack, this track was preferred as the single.
The idea "Bring Me to Life" is based on an encounter Lee had with a friend of a friend in a restaurant. She felt unhappy and abused in her relationship, but tried to hide it. After a few words, he suddenly asked, "Are you happy?". She felt her heart beating and answered in the affirmative, believing he was psychic. However, she later stated that she wrote the song about her old boyfriend and now husband Josh Hartzler.
Lee's sister was fascinated by pop stars like Christina Aguilera or Britney Spears, which was the inspiration for the song "Everybody's Fool". The latter had dressed like those superstars as an eight-year-old, which annoyed Amy.
"My Immortal" was written by Ben Moody and is based on one of his short stories. It's about a ghost that won't let you go. In the booklet he dedicated the song to his grandfather.
"Haunted" is also based on a story by Moody, but the lyrics were written by Amy Lee. The title is about a little girl who follows her red ball into a dilapidated mansion from which there is suddenly no exit.
"Hello," like the "Like You" from the album The Open Door, was written in memory of Lee's late sister.
"Tourniquet" was originally written by Rocky Gray for the band Soul Embraced and is about suicide.
