Geography and landscape

The territory is characterized by steep slopes, forested valleys and open alpine meadows. Elevation and mountain exposure create a pronounced seasonal climate with snowy winters and cool summers. Within the commune’s bounds stands the Enciastraia peak, a prominent feature of the local skyline. History and human activity

Like many Alpine communes, Enchastrayes evolved from pastoral and subsistence farming communities. Traditional practices such as seasonal grazing (transhumance) shaped land use for centuries. In the 19th and 20th centuries changes including improved roads, migration and the rise of mountain tourism altered local economies but small-scale agriculture and artisan traditions remain visible in village architecture and land divisions.
