History and mission

Created in the 18th century to prepare engineers for roads, bridges and waterways, the school has evolved to cover a broad spectrum of technical and policy fields. Historically it prepared members of the state engineering body often called the Corps of Bridges and Roads; today it continues to educate engineers for both the public and private sectors while expanding into environmental science, transport planning and urban systems.

Academic organisation and research

Programmes combine rigorous mathematics and engineering fundamentals with applied work. Core areas include civil and structural engineering, hydraulic and environmental engineering, transport and mobility, urban planning, and systems modelling. Research units collaborate with national laboratories and international partners on sustainable infrastructure, resilient cities and digital technologies for transport.

International and executive programmes

The school runs several international offerings. It provides an executive Master of Business Administration focused on aviation and management, delivered in partnership with regional and academic institutions. For example, the aviation MBA is taught in collaboration with the Académie internationale Mohammed VI de l'aviation civile in Morocco and with the French Civil Aviation University (ENAC). A related programme is offered in China together with Tsinghua University and ENAC (ENAC). These partnerships reflect the school's emphasis on sector-specific professional education and international mobility.

Role, distinctions and public service

Beyond degrees, École des Ponts plays a role in public policy, infrastructure planning and technical expertise. It has historically trained engineers destined for the state engineering corps and continues to prepare specialists associated with the Corps of Bridges and Roads. Its alumni and faculty contribute to major national projects, research consortia and advisory roles in transport and urban development.
