Overview
The École nationale supérieure d'électrotechnique, d'électronique, d'informatique, d'hydraulique et des télécommunications (commonly ENSEEIHT) is a French grande école located on the campus of the University of Toulouse. It is a member of the Toulouse Institute of Technology network (Toulouse INP) and contributes to multidisciplinary engineering education in areas that include electrical engineering, electronics, computer science, hydraulics and telecommunications. Instruction and research are conducted in both French and English, and the school attracts students from many countries.
Academic programs
ENSEEIHT delivers the French Diplôme d'ingénieur, a degree recognised at master level in the European higher education framework. In addition to the flagship engineering curriculum, the school offers postgraduate and continuing-education options:
- Ingénieur ENSEEIHT — the multidisciplinary engineering programme combining theoretical foundations, laboratory work and industrial projects;
- Master of Science — international master programmes, some delivered in partnership with other institutions, including collaboration with the French Civil Aviation University for specific tracks;
- Mastères Spécialisés — vocationally oriented specialised masters designed for advanced professional skills;
- Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) — selected distance-learning modules to disseminate technical knowledge more widely.
Research and fields of expertise
Research activity at ENSEEIHT covers both applied and theoretical topics. Principal areas include signal processing and communications, power systems and energy, control and automation, embedded systems and software, fluid mechanics and hydraulics, and modelling and simulation. Research units often collaborate with regional industry—particularly aerospace and telecom firms in the Toulouse region—and with national research organisations. Applied projects, internships and industry co-supervised theses link academic research to practical development.
Admissions and international links
Admission routes reflect the French higher-education system for grandes écoles: students enter after preparatory classes via competitive selection, or via university and international admission channels. ENSEEIHT participates in international exchange programmes and maintains partnerships that enable study abroad, double-degree arrangements and collaborative research. The multilingual environment and partnerships help prepare graduates for careers in France and overseas.
Campus life and career support
About 1,500 students follow the engineering cycle at ENSEEIHT. Many live in residential buildings close to laboratories and public transport on the University of Toulouse campus. Student life features technical clubs, project teams, and student associations that support hands-on learning, entrepreneurship and cultural activities. Career services emphasise internships, industrial placements and contacts with regional employers to facilitate transition into professional roles.
History, reputation and distinctive features
As an established grande école, ENSEEIHT is known for its multidisciplinary approach and for training engineers capable of working across electrical, electronic, computing and hydraulic domains. Its location in Toulouse, a major centre for aerospace and high technology, strengthens links between education, innovation and employment.
