Political career and offices

Moinfar held senior government responsibilities at a critical moment when Iran’s oil industry and state institutions were being restructured. He served as Petroleum Minister during the immediate post-revolutionary period and subsequently was elected to the national legislature. In the Majles he represented the capital city and took part in debates shaping economic and energy policy during the early 1980s.

After his parliamentary term, Moinfar remained a noted figure among Iran’s early revolutionary-era officials. He was regarded as a technocrat who had been brought into politics at a time of national transition. Ali Akbar Moinfar died in Tehran on 2 January 2018 of renal failure at the age of 89. His career is often cited when discussing the transformation of Iran’s energy administration and the personalities who led it in the revolution’s aftermath.
