Administration and municipal history

The current municipal entity was created on 1 January 2017 when the former communes of Chermignon, Mollens, Montana and Randogne merged to form the consolidated municipality of Crans‑Montana. Historically, the resort area also extended into neighbouring communes such as Lens and Icogne, so the tourist footprint and service network continue to cross municipal borders. The merger aimed to streamline administration, improve planning for land use and tourism, and coordinate public services across the plateau.

Geography and climate

Located on an elevated plateau with wide views over the Rhône valley and surrounding peaks, Crans‑Montana enjoys abundant sunshine and a mountain climate that supports a long winter sports season and pleasant summer conditions.
