Playing profile and style

Javed combined controlled pace with seam movement, often obtaining swing that troubled batsmen in helpful conditions. As a bowler who could swing the ball both into and away from a right‑handed batsman, he operated effectively with the new ball and was useful in changes of pace. He batted right‑handed lower in the order and contributed occasional useful runs in limited‑overs cricket.

International career and highlights

Making his international debut as a teenager, Javed established himself in Pakistan’s pace attack across formats during a career that spanned the late 1980s and most of the 1990s. He was part of the squad during Pakistan’s successful campaigns of that era and played an active role in both bilateral series and multi‑team tournaments. His international record includes appearances in major tournaments and numerous one‑day matches where his seam and swing were harnessed to restrict scoring.

Coaching and later roles

After retiring from playing, Javed moved into coaching and player development. He has worked with pace bowlers and youth players at national and domestic levels, helping to pass on skills in seam, swing and tactical bowling. His post‑playing career has included roles focused on talent identification, bowling coaching and mentoring emerging cricketers. He is often described as a coach who emphasizes rhythm, line and length.

Legacy and distinctions

  • Early international debut and sustained presence in Pakistan’s limited‑overs side through the 1990s.
  • Reputation for swing bowling and the ability to bowl efficiently with the new ball.
  • Transition to coaching, contributing to the development of young pace bowlers and domestic teams.
